I was born 1960 in Bracht, a lovely small village on the Lower Rhine, part of the Council of Brüggen, in the state of North-Rhine/Westphalia, Germany.

I went to school in Moers, a beautiful city on the Lower Rhine.

In the year 1978 I began to study Physics at the University of Cologne. In 1982 I started collaborating at the Institute of Nuclear Physics where in 1990 I obtained my Ph.D. (i.e. Dr.rer.nat.) with first-class honours on a thesis about Fast Methods for the Analysis of gamma-gamma Coincidences with Large Detector Arrays and Measurement of the High Spin States of 146Gd and 128Ba.

In 1991, I moved to Portugal. First for a three year's fellowship supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, then to stay...

Until 1994, I worked as a PostDoc at the Center of Nuclear Physics in Lisbon on Materials Sciences with Nuclear Physics Methods, in strong collaboration with the Institute of Nuclear Technologies in Sacavém.

From 1994 to 2006, I was Professor at the Portuguese Catholic University, more precisely at the Regional Center of the Beiras, with campus in Figueira da Foz and in Viseu.

Since 2006, I am full time investigator at LIP (Laboratory for Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics) in Coimbra, a beautiful old city in the center of Portugal, which has a University that is one of the oldest in Europe (founded in 1290).

Since 2007, I am also Invited Lecturer at the Physics Department there.
